It's been a busy week for Burst. The new website is up. It's the first one I have ever built and although I'd love to have paid a professional to produce something amazing, I'm happy with it as a low cost option on my tiny start-up budget. I'm also pleased that my tech skills in general are developing (I was beyond excited to have actually embedded some code). Burst's blog is started (after several months of procrastination on my part) and I've met with an amazing new author and seen proofs of a book cover from a lovely illustrator I am working with - more details soon.
But perhaps the biggest thing for me (and Burst) this week is that I have been in touch with the Welsh Book Council and joined the Independent Publishers Guild. Both bodies offer a small, emerging company like mine a lifeline of encouragement, advice and practical help in a large, vibrant and sometimes intimidating industry and for that I am very thankful. I'm also thankful that today I own a large umbrella, because its early Saturday morning, and I'm looking out the window as the sun is rising on what looks to be a very wet November weekend.
Umbrellas are great. Umbrella bodies are greater. Viva la umbrella!*
*OK, so it should actually be 'Viva el paraguas!' and I'm adding Google Translate to the list of things I'm thankful for today.
